Let's hear it for 75 years for the Honolulu Police Department.

It's a long time to walk beats in the rain and the heat, or help lost kids find their moms, or stand guard while school kids lug their backpacks and satchels across busy streets to school.

Not to mention chasing dope dealers down alleys, or firmly telling those inclined to start trouble to move it along.

Then there are the bank heists, bunko artists, purse snatchers, strong-arm robbers, drunken drivers, ugly domestic disturbances and a thousand other woes — many of them much more sad and serious — that attest to the unfortunate aspects of human relations.

But that's what our Honolulu officers face day after day — for us.

HPD celebrated its 75th anniversary yesterday with the Diamond Jubilee Community Fair at Frank F. Fasi Civic Center Grounds. An enthusiastic public turned out to help mark the special day.
