West Oahu USABF team rolls into semis

Chad Takabuki went 3 for 3 with an RBI and two runs scored as West O'ahu beat Encinatas, Calif., 9-2, yesterday in pool play of the U.S. Amateur Baseball Federation World Series in San Diego.
The game was called after five innings because of the seven-run mercy rule.
Ronel Trias went 2 for 3 with two RBIs for West O'ahu, which will play in the semifinals today in the 18-under tournament.
Nick Wong had a home run and two RBIs for West O'ahu.
Kione Manago earned the win, striking out four.

WATABU FINISHES TIED FOR 18TH IN SAN DIEGO
Kaua'i's Casey Watabu shot 71—289 and finished tied for 18th yesterday at the 41st Pacific Coast Amateur Championship in San Diego.
Mike Knight of Calgary, Alberta, won the title with a 10-under 278.
UNIVERSITY GAMES
U.S. MEN TOP SWEDEN IN VOLLEYBALL, 3-0
The U.S. men's volleyball team beat Sweden, 25-18, 25-21, 25-21, yesterday in pool play at the World University Games in Bangkok, Thailand.
Former University of Hawai'i libero Alfie Reft is on the U.S. team, which plays Japan today.
The United States is 2-0 in pool play.
FUNDRAISING
FOOTBALL PIGOUT SET FOR AUG. 23 AT MURPHY'S
Murphy's Warrior Football Pigout will be held on Aug. 23, with funds raised going to the University of Hawai'i program.
The event is scheduled to start at 5:30 p.m. at Murphy's in downtown Honolulu.
Among items available during the Pigout auction are golf tours, UH tickets and restaurant and travel items.
Tickets for the event are $100. For reservations or information, contact 531-0422.
CHEERLEADING
SIX PREP ATHLETES RECEIVE SCHOLARSHIPS
Six high school cheerleaders were awarded scholarships at the All Attitude Athletics' Hawai'i Style Cheerleading Camp.Christopher Acacio of Farrington and Niki Fernandez of Baldwin each received $1,000 scholarships. Punahou's Taryn Loo and Castle's Jamie Akamine received $500 each and Julie Nagata of Moanalua and Corey Manibog of Baldwin received $250 each.
Baldwin graduate and incoming Hawai'i Pacific University freshman Anela Winn received a $500 scholarship for camp staff members.
The camp had 293 participants and was held July 13 to 16 at Moanalua High School.
