Gymnasts claim crowns

 •  Trail can be rewarding, but tricky to navigate

Hawai'i gymnasts traveled to Memphis, Tenn., and won titles at the U.S. (Elite) Trampoline Championships June 21 to 24, and the USA Gymnastics Trampoline-Tumbling Junior Olympics National Championships, June 24 to 28.

The champions:

  • Spencer Madanay, a freshman at Punahou School, won the Level 8 tumbling national championship. On the double mini-tramp, Level 10, he finished second.

  • Annika Northrop, a home-school student from Kailua, was first in the Level 10 trampoline and Level 10 double mini-trampoline. She also placed third in Level 6 tumbling.

  • Josh Smith, a seventh-grader at Saint Elizabeth's School, was first in the Level 10 double mini-trampoline, fourth in Level 10 trampoline, and sixth in Level 8 tumbling.

  • Linnet Eaton, an eighth-grade home-school student from Honolulu, was first in the Level 8 double mini-trampoline, 40th in Level 9 trampoline, and 12th in Level 5 tumbling.

  • Alena Eaton, a sophomore home-school student from Honolulu, was first in Level 7 trampoline and third in Level 7 double mini-trampoline.
