Nevada center Dominic Green is expected to miss seven weeks with a broken foot.

Wolf Pack coach Chris Ault said yesterday that Green, a second-team all-Western Athletic Conference pick at tackle last year, was injured two weeks ago.

The coach said Green would definitely miss Nevada's first two games, at Nebraska on Sept. 1 and at Northwestern on Sept. 8.

"We'll play that as we go. That was our starting center and our most experienced lineman," Ault said.

The 295-pound Green has played all three positions on the line, starting all 25 games of his career.

Hawai'i plays at Nevada on Nov. 16.

MCFARLAND HURTS KNEE

Indianapolis Colts defensive tackle Anthony McFarland injured his knee Friday and missed Saturday's controlled scrimmage.

Colts coach Tony Dungy called the injury serious and said McFarland might need surgery but didn't give details on how the injury happened or which knee was hurt.

"It's a long-term injury," Dungy said. "It's (surgery) something that we're contemplating. It's something that I think is going to happen."

T.O.'S BACK NOT SERIOUS

Terrell Owens' back pain is just spasms and isn't considered serious.

An MRI taken when Owens missed the Dallas Cowboys' practice for the second straight day, showed no problems.

T.O. got more treatment yesterday and wasn't on the field for either of the team's two practice sessions. Receivers coach Ray Sherman said he didn't know if Owens would be at practice today in San Antonio.

BILL PLEADS NOT GUILTY

Buffalo Bills backup defensive end Anthony Hargrove pleaded not guilty yesterday to several misdemeanor charges stemming from a weekend confrontation with police outside a nightclub.

Hargrove missed the team's morning walkthrough at training camp in suburban Rochester, N.Y., and was scheduled to appear in court again Thursday. The hearing was not expected to prevent him from traveling with the Bills that day for their preseason opener at New Orleans on Friday.

Hargrove was charged with harassment, resisting arrest and criminal mischief after an altercation outside a Rochester nightclub early Sunday morning.

CHIEF PICK SIGNS

First-round pick Dwayne Bowe ended his holdout and agreed to a five-year contract yesterday. Terms were not released.

The wide receiver from LSU will begin camp on the physically unable-to-perform list. He will work out individually until he is in good enough shape to participate in team drills, Chiefs coach Herm Edwards said.

FRANKLIN SPRAINS KNEE

Starting nose tackle Aubrayo Franklin sprained his left knee and will miss the preseason.

Franklin, who left Baltimore to sign with San Francisco in the offseason, was injured when two offensive linemen rolled onto his leg during a play.

Defensive lineman Ronald Fields might fill in for Franklin along with former University of Hawai'i standout Isaac Sopoaga.

'PACMAN' TO ENTER RING

Adam "Pacman" Jones, the suspended Tennessee cornerback, is stepping into the ring and giving pro wrestling a whirl with Total Nonstop Action Wrestling.

"I am a big fan of wrestling, so I wanted to give it a try," Jones said in a statement yesterday. "I respect wrestling and I'm not coming in like it's just a show."

NFL contracts prohibit non-football activities that could cause injury. Jones' agent, Michael Huyghue, said last week he had talked with the Titans about Jones' plans with TNA. The agent previously said Jones would not be wrestling.

"I do not have a comment," Titans coach Jeff Fisher said when asked about Jones wrestling.

MINTER TO RETIRE

Carolina Panthers safety Mike Minter, the team's career leader in tackles and one of its most popular players, has decided to retire because of chronic knee pain, a person familiar with the decision said yesterday.

The person, speaking to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity because an official announcement will be made today, said Minter made the decision over the weekend.

Yao Ming married his long-term girlfriend yesterday at a swanky hotel in his hometown of Shanghai, China.

Yao, the Houston Rockets' star center, married Ye Li, a 6-foot-2 player on the Chinese women's basketball team in a ceremony at the Shangri-La Hotel, www.sina.com reported.

About 70 friends and relatives attended the ceremony and banquet.

BARNES GETS NEW DEAL

Forward Matt Barnes re-signed with the Golden State Warriors yesterday, agreeing to a one-year deal after enjoying his best NBA season with the club last year.

Barnes, a four-year veteran who has played for five teams, had career-best averages of 9.8 points, 4.6 rebounds and 2.1 assists last season.

Barnes shopped his services to several teams as a free agent, but couldn't find a lucrative deal despite changing agents twice. His contract with Golden State is expected to be worth slightly more than $3 million — the remainder of the Warriors' mid-level salary cap exemption.

NCAA EYES BALL STATE

Former Ball State basketball coach Ronny Thompson's attorney denies that the coach committed any rules violations as alleged by the NCAA in a letter to university officials.

The NCAA asked Ball State officials to investigate new accusations surrounding the men's basketball program, including an allegation that the women's volleyball coach was fired for reporting suspected infractions.

The latest allegations were outlined in a letter from the NCAA dated two days before Thompson's resignation on July 13, following a 9-22 record in his one season at Ball State. School officials said then Thompson and his staff broke NCAA rules by attending voluntary offseason workouts in both 2006 and 2007, then lied about their involvement this May.

KYLE BUSCH TAPS GIBBS

Kyle Busch chose to drive for Joe Gibbs Racing next season and began informing other teams yesterday of his decision.

A source close to Busch told The Associated Press that the driver had selected Gibbs after a seven-week search that began when Hendrick Motorsports released the 22-year-old driver to make room for Dale Earnhardt Jr. next season. The source requested anonymity because the deal was not finalized.
