K-Fest offers several hot new Korean films

In keeping with its mission to advance understanding and cultural exchange among the peoples of Asia, the Pacific and North America, the Louis Vuitton Hawaii International Film Festival holds its third annual Korean film festival, or K-Fest, Aug. 24 to 27 at the Regal Dole Cannery Theaters.
The festival has a lineup of eight brand-new films. All except one ("A Millionaire's First Love") were released in South Korea this year.
"The Perfect Couple," noon Aug. 24, 6 p.m. Aug. 26. A detective and a reporter who can't stand each other join forces to take down a crime boss.
"My Tutor Friend 2," 3 p.m. Aug. 24 and 25. To pay off his credit-card debts, Jongman is forced to give his room and language lessons to Junko, a beautiful foreigner. Hostility turns to attraction.
"Miracle on 1st Street" 6:30 p.m. Aug. 24, 8:45 p.m. Aug. 25. A neighborhood tough guy squares off against an aspiring female boxer.
"My Son," 8:45 p.m. Aug. 24. A murderer granted a one-day leave from prison is determined to create a relationship with his 15-year-old son.
"Voice of a Murderer," noon Aug. 25. When the police fail to find the kidnapped son of a prominent couple, the parents risk everything by demanding to meet the kidnapper face to face. Based on a true story.
"For Horowitz," 6 p.m. Aug. 25, 8:45 p.m. Aug. 26. A gifted young pianist and his teacher train for a competition, only to have it end in disaster, but a secret that the pianist holds could change both their lives forever.
"A Millionaire's First Love," noon Aug. 26. A pampered city boy must move to a small town to finish high school or risk losing a large inheritance.
"Highway Star," 3 p.m. Aug. 26. When a rock-star hopeful is hired to play folk music, he winds up an overnight sensation.
Tickets go on sale Aug. 17 and are available by phone (550-8457), online (www.hiff.org) or in person at Regal Dole Cannery Theaters' guest services counter one hour before the first showing of the day.
Prices: $10 for members, $9 for students, seniors and military.
