  • Jay Kaneshiro has been promoted to general manager of the Ruth's Chris Steak House at the Waikiki Beach Walk on Lewers Street, the fifth location statewide owned by franchisee Desert Island Restaurants. Kaneshiro, who joined the company in 1997, has also served as manager at Ruth's Chris Steak House in Restaurant Row and as lunch, dinner and bar manager at Ryan's Grill in Ward Centre. Also joining the new Ruth's Chris team in Waikiki are Leighton Miyakawa, who was named executive chef, and Peter J. Dietrich, who was named manager. Miyakawa has served as executive chef at Gate Gourmet International and Dobbs International, sous chef for United Airlines and chef at The Chart House. Dietrich previously worked as chef/manager at Mariposa restaurant at Neiman Marcus and at Rauelles in Colorado.

  • GREGG TAKAYAMA has been named director of communications in the Office of the Chancellor at the University of Hawai'i-Manoa, effective tomorrow. He moves to his new position from the university's John A. Burns School of Medicine, where he served as director of public relations since August 2005. He also has worked as a reporter for the Honolulu Star-Bulletin; press secretary to U.S. Sen. Daniel K. Inouye in Washington, D.C.; spokesman for the state Department of Public Safety and for former Lt. Gov. Ben Cayetano, and reporter for KHON2 News.

  • Public relations firm Bennet Group Strategic Communications has announced two additions to its staff: CHARLISSE (CHAR) CHANG, as account executive, and crystal Yamasaki, as assistant account executive. Chang previously worked on the Hawaiian Telcom account for advertising firm Milici Valenti Ng Pack. In the new position, she will work with accounts in the public health and education fields. Yamasaki has interned at McNeil Wilson Communications and worked previously for a literacy program in California. She will be assigned to accounts in retailing, architecture and public health.

  • Hale Kipa has promoted JAQUE KELLEY-UYEOKA to deputy director, outreach service, and MARI VERMEER to deputy director of placement services. Kelley-Uyeoka will be responsible for all Hale Kipa programs, which has helped thousands of Hawai'i's runaways and homeless youth, and others at risk.

  • Hunt Development Group has named Thomas Lee its new development manager. As such, he will assist managing development of the firm's Palamanui master-planned community on the Big Island, as well as lead the project's affordable housing development and "green building" certification process. Prior to joining Hunt, Lee worked for Evergreen Homes in Oregon. In Hawai'i, Hunt ELP Ltd., has built more than 3,700 military homes on O'ahu, including at the former Iroquois Point and Barbers Point Navy housing areas.

  • Roberts Hawai'i has hired Konrad Ikei as director of marketing for all Roberts Hawai'i products, including its island sightseeing tours, Magic of Polynesia Waikiki nightclub show, Ali'i Kai and Captain Bean's Cruises experiences, Roberts Overnighters travel packages, as well as tour and transportation services. The 16-year marketing veteran previously was director of marketing for Coldwell Banker, and has led marketing and branding strategies for City Bank. With a fleet of more than 1,000 vehicles and 1,400 employees, Roberts is the largest privately owned tour and transportation company in the state.
