Hear Episcopal, Buddhist bishops

The newest bishops from the Episcopal diocese and the Honpa Hongwanji Buddhist Kyodan will discuss their spiritual journeys at 7 a.m. Wednesday at the Interfaith Open Table.

The Open Table, which meets the first Wednesday of the month at Temple Emanu-el, welcomes newly elected Episcopal Bishop Robert Fitzpatrick and Bishop Thomas Okano, head of the largest Buddhist organization in the state.

'10 QUESTIONS FOR THE DALAI LAMA'

The Hawai'i premiere of "10 Questions for the Dalai Lama" will be at 7 p.m. today, with an additional screening at 3 p.m. tomorrow, part of the UH Cinema Series.

The screening is in the University of Hawai'i-Manoa's Spalding Auditorium.

Tickets are $10.

The 2006 documentary was directed by Rick Ray, who traveled to India and managed a private visit to the Dalai Lama's monastery in Dharamsala, India.

MORE FOR MOMS BREAKFAST EVENT

The women's ministry of First Presbyterian Church hosts More for Moms, a breakfast event at 9 a.m. May 15 with pastor Jim Miller as speaker.

It will be held at the church, which meets at Ko'olau Golf Course.

ISRAEL DAY FEST MAY 6 IN PARK

The Israel Day Festival will be 11 a.m. May 6 at Skygate Park, 650 S. King St., next to the state library and city hall.

The free festival features kosher food, entertainment, and games, and celebrates 59 years of Israeli independence.

CELEBRATION OF FATHER DAMIEN

Blessed Father Damien will be celebrated at the statue of the renowned Kalaupapa priest at the state Capitol at 9:30 a.m. May 10, his feast day.

Awards will be given to winners of an essay contest, and the first-place finisher will read the winning essay.

In attendance will be Bishop Larry Silva, the Rev. Chris Keahi, and Sister Helene Wood; the latter two are provincial superiors of the Congregations of the Sacred Hearts of Jesus and Mary. A Mass follows at 10:30 a.m. at the Cathedral of Our Lady of Peace.
