HPU hires hoop coach

Hawai'i Pacific associate athletic director Jeff Harada has been named the school's women's basketball head coach, the school announced yesterday.
Harada was HPU's men's basketball coach and assistant athletics director the past three years.
He was recently promoted to associate AD for compliance and media relations.
HPU was 2-25 record in its inaugural season this year.
BASEBALL
NEW MEXICO STATE TOPS UH-HILO, 6-4
Freshman pitcher Anthony Arrieta went seven innings, giving up two earned runs, as New Mexico State beat Hawai'i-Hilo, 6-4, last night in a non-conference baseball game at Presley Askew Field in Las Cruces, N.M.
Arrieta (2-3) gave up seven hits and struck out two.
Jeffrey Germain (1-4) took the loss for the Vulcans, giving up four runs on five hits in 5 1/3 innings.
First baseman A.J. Satele went 2 for 3 for the Vulcans (12-28-1) and drove in a run.
The Aggies improved to 18-24.
The two teams play again today in the final contest of the two-game series.

PUNAHOU INVITATIONAL RELAYS ON SATURDAY
The 62nd annual Punahou Invitational Relays are set for Saturday at Alexander Field at Punahou School.
The event for high school boys and girls will begin at 9:30 a.m. with the discus, long jump and pole vault. Running events begin at 10:30 a.m.
The final of the annual "Hawai'i's Fastest Human," a 100-meter sprint open competition held in conjunction with the event, is scheduled for 1:10 p.m.
Trials for the "Fastest Human" sprint are at 5 p.m. tomorrow at Alexander Field.
