The Hawai'i baseball team saw a good offensive team in Louisiana Tech over the weekend, but it will see a better one tomorrow.

The Rainbows (27-16) will play at nationally ranked Arizona State before resuming their Western Athletic Conference schedule at New Mexico State this weekend. Tomorrow's game will be broadcast on 1420 AM at 3:45 p.m., Hawai'i time.

The Sun Devils (32-10), who have an 11-game win streak, are ranked from No. 6 (Collegiate Baseball) to No. 11 (Baseball America).

"They're probably the most talented team, as far as draftable talent, in the country," UH coach Mike Trapasso said.

As of April 15 (the NCAA stats for the past weekend were not up to date as of yesterday), the Sun Devils led the nation in scoring, averaging 10.1 runs per game (their actual average as of yesterday did not change), second in batting average at .358 (it's at .357 now), third in slugging at .554 (it's .548 now) and third in doubles at 2.85 per game (2.79 now).

"We've just come off of playing the best offensive team we've played all year in Louisiana Tech and yet Arizona State is leading the nation in offense or real close to it," Trapasso said. "So it will be a real good experience for us and a great opportunity."

First baseman Brett Wallace leads the team in batting (.451), slugging (.531), home runs (12), RBIs (62) and on-base percentage (.531). Designated hitter Kiel Roling is second in most of the game categories, batting .402 with 10 homers and 45 RBIs.

It is the first time the two program are playing each other since 1993 with ASU leading the series, 24-18.

The Rainbows will staff the midweek game as usual. Trapasso hasn't decided who will start. He left yesterday, a day ahead of the team, for recruiting in the Arizona area. The team arrives in Tempe tonight.

It is early in the week, but there might be a change in UH's starting rotation. Mark Rodrigues and Ian Harrington are certain, but Joshua Schneider is not. Trapasso said he will decide later. Hawai'i's other starts have been dispersed between Matt Daly (4) and Cameron Wheeler (1).

Harrington turned in a complete-game, 7-2 win against Tech on Sunday, a quality start the Rainbows need on Fridays. Harrington started the season as the Friday pitcher, but struggled a bit and was moved to Sunday the last two starts and apparently has found his groove. He was the Sunday starter, or the third starter, most of last season, when he went 9-3 with a 3.99 ERA and three complete games. Two of his complete games were in postseason. In Harrington's last two starts, he had more ground ball outs than air outs, meaning he is keeping his pitches down, which will be important in thin-aired New Mexico.

The Rainbows enjoyed their largest turnouts during the Louisiana Tech series, drawing a season-high 7,885. That is the turnstile count, or people who showed up and used their tickets. There were 11,567 tickets issued, meaning 3,682 tickets went unused.

The Rainbows are home only one more time, May 19 to 21, against Fresno State. That is an unusual Saturday through Monday series. The Bulldogs have final exams before that road trip and can't get here earlier. The WAC tournament is scheduled to start May 24, giving both teams' Game 1 starters only four days rest.
