The Hawai'i Wildfire Management Organization is inviting West Hawai'i residents to a meeting May 3 to gather input for a community protection plan for the area from Kohala to Kona Palisades.

Wildfires have destroyed homes and structures, prompted evacuations and closed roads in the area, and the plan will identify projects that would reduce the threat.

The meeting is from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. in the Waimea Community Center.
