Advertiser Staff

The Hawai'i-Hilo women's softball team swept visiting Dixie State College yesterday, winning both games of a non-conference doubleheader by 2-1 scores at Honoka'a Park.

Hilo improved to 35-10; Dixie fell to 34-11.

In the first game, Sarah Weisskopf pitched a four-hitter with five strikeouts and Charity Senas drove in both Hilo runs with a single in the first and a double in the third.

Weisskopf (16-4) gave up a homer to the second batter of the game — Shantae Hunter — then kept Dixie in check until the seventh when she gave up consecutive singles after two were out. She got Larson Whitney to pop up for the final out.

In the second game, Leo Sing Chow (8-1) pitched a six-hitter with four strikeouts and the Vulcans scored two runs in the third after loading the bases with two outs. Meghan Jost singled in the first run and Dana Lee drew a walk to score the second.

Amanda Vance hit an RBI single with one out in the sixth, but Sing Chow escaped further trouble by stranding two runners.
