A portion of the right-hand turn lane into Kawaiku'i Beach Park will be closed through April 16 while construction workers connect the Niu Valley force main pipe to the discharge point, the city said.

The closure will occur during non-peak traffic hours and shouldn't affect entry into the beach park or Pu'uikena Drive.

The force main sewer pipe is installed, but not connected. The next step is to connect both ends — by Niu Valley Shopping center — to the beach park. The above-ground pipe, which runs down Kalaniana'ole Highway, was put in after the sewer pipe repeatedly burst in the same spot in 2005.
