UH's De Nooy named MPSF water polo Player of Week

University of Hawai'i senior goalie Meike De Nooy has been named the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Player of the Week.
De Nooy made nine stops during the first three quarters to preserve a 10-9 upset victory over then-No. 4 California Saturday.
De Nooy missed the three previous matches while playing for The Netherlands at the World Aquatic Championships in Melbourne, Australia. She leads the MPSF in saves per match (10.57) and is among the national leaders.
Meanwhile, the Rainbow Wahine (11-8) moved up three spots and are tied for No. 4 in the National Collegiate Women's Water Polo Top 20 poll.
Stanford is No. 1, UCLA is No. 2 and UC Irvine is third.
UH plays at UC Santa Barbara and Cal State Northridge next week.

ABUBO OUSTED
Megan Abubo of Waialua was eliminated in the third round of the Rip Curl Women's Pro yesterday at Bells Beach, Australia.
Abubo lost to Australian Amee Donohoe, 12.6-10.33.
Australia's Stephanie Gilmore defeated Peru's Sofia Mulanovich to win the contest and the $12,000 first-place check.
The contest was the second of seven on the 2007 World Championship Tour for women.
The men's Rip Curl Pro did not run heats yesterday.
SAILING
UH COED TEAM FIFTH
The University of Hawai'i coed sailing team placed fifth out of 24 teams in the St. Francis Regatta last weekend at Redwood City, Calif.
The UH women team finished 18th. USC edged UC Irvine by three points to win the event, which was hosted by Stanford and featured 22 races.
Mike Scott and Jackie McLoughlin led the Rainbows with a fifth-place finish in the A division after scoring 79 points. Andrew Meade and Pam Magasinn totaled 93 points for seventh place in the B division.
Crystal Bronte and Leanne Horvitz totaled 185 points in the A division for the UH women, while teammates Becky Mabardy and Elise St. Claire scored 202.
TENNIS
UH MEN END SKID
The University of Hawai'i men's tennis team won five of six singles matches to defeat host Cal Poly, 5-2, yesterday and snap a five-match losing streak.
Andreas Weber, ranked 54th in the latest FILA Collegiate rankings, beat Matt Baca at the No. 1 singles, 6-3, 6-0, to help rally the Rainbow Warriors (5-10). Weber has won 12 of his last 14 singles matches and improved to 21-6.
Chad Faulk, Derrick Lajola, Spence Mendoza and Jeff Fitch also won their singles matches for UH.
The Mustangs fell to 5-7.
