Man killed in tractor accident

A Pacific Heights man was killed yesterday when the tractor he was operating overturned and landed on him.

The Honolulu medical examiner's office identified him as Bradley Brown, 50, of a Laola Place address.

Police said Brown was clearing brush on his property when the accident occurred. The incident was reported at 2:23 p.m.

Emergency Medical Services personnel pronounced Brown dead at 2:46 p.m., EMS spokesman Bryan Cheplic said. Police have classified the incident as an unattended death.


STOVE STARTED FIRE IN PI'IKOI HIGH-RISE

A stove that was accidentally left on ignited some boxes, starting a fire March 31 that damaged two high-rise units at Piikoi Tower, fire investigators concluded.

Honolulu Fire Department spokesman Capt. Terry Seelig said investigators determined that boxes had been placed on top of the stove by tenants moving into a seventh-floor unit at 1556 Pi'ikoi St. Firefighters responded at 7:42 p.m. and reported the fire under control at 8:08 p.m.

An eighth-floor unit also suffered damage.

Seelig said Piikoi Tower was built in 1975 before sprinkler systems were required.


BOGUS SAWBUCK, STOLEN CHECKS

A 43-year-old woman was arrested Wednesday morning after she allegedly presented a counterfeit $10 bill to make a purchase at a Wahiawa store.

Police were called to the store about 8:10 a.m. and arrested the woman on suspicion of first-degree forgery. Also Wednesday, police arrested two people in separate cases for allegedly trying to pass stolen checks.

A 45-year-old woman was arrested about 10:20 a.m. Wednesday after she allegedly used a stolen personal check to make a purchase at a Hale'iwa store.

A 45-year-old man was arrested Wednesday night in Chinatown after he allegedly tried to pass a stolen check. Police said a 65-year-old man had reported a stolen check, and that the suspect had attended a party at his home.


MAN ARRESTED IN THREAT, ROBBERY

Prosecutors yesterday charged a 21-year-old Halawa man for allegedly threatening and robbing his former girlfriend.

Kaipo H. May of Kalaloa Street, was being held in lieu of $100,000 bail after being charged with first-degree terroristic threatening, kidnapping, first-degree robbery and firearm-related offenses. Third-degree promotion of dangerous drug and possession of paraphernalia charges are pending.

The offenses allegedly occurred at the 21-year-old woman's workplace.
