State to spend $2.66M on jail, prison repairs

Gov. Linda Lingle yesterday released $2.66 million for improvement projects at correctional facilities on Kaua'i, Maui, O'ahu and the Big Island.
The projects include:
Women's Community Correction Center in Windward O'ahu: $32,000 for an assessment of exterior sewer lines.
O'ahu Community Correctional Center: $939,000 to replace two 143-ton chillers. Expected completion date: September 2008.
Halawa Correctional Facility: $313,500 to replace 20-year-old emergency generator. Expected completion: August 2008.
Maui Community Correctional Center: $573,600 to replace 125-ton air conditioning chiller by June 2008.
Hawai'i Community Correctional Center on the Big Island: $244,000 for improvements to the air conditioning system in the Punahele Housing facility by June 2008, and $200,000 for the construction of a modular office and classroom for the Hale Nani Vocational Training rehabilitation and re-entry program.
Kaua'i Community Correctional Center: $356,000 for a diesel-fuel emergency generator to replace a propane generator. Expected completion: August 2008.
