Schofield man killed in car crash

A 27-year-old Schofield Barracks man was killed after his car veered off the road and struck a utility pole on Kunia Road early yesterday morning, Honolulu police said. No one else was in the car.
The man, whose identity was not released, was not wearing a seat belt. Police said speed was a "probable factor" and alcohol was a "possible factor."
The 1991 Chevy four-door sedan was traveling south on Kunia Road shortly after 2 a.m. when the car veered off to the western-most shoulder and hit a utility pole 1.3 miles north of Anonui Street. The car rolled over, ejecting the driver and then crushing him, police said.
The man was pronounced dead at the scene. The wreck occurred during cloudy weather on a wet roadway.
KAIMUKI BLAZE LEAVES 3 HOMELESS
A Kaimuki house went up in flames yesterday, leaving three people homeless and causing about $230,000 in damage.
The fire started about 11:29 a.m. on Brokaw Street; it was under control by 11:48 a.m.
Three people and two dogs were home when the fire started but escaped without injuries. Honolulu Fire Department Capt. Jerry Spencer said volunteers with the American Red Cross of Hawai'i were assisting the family. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
