'Eco-hotel' part of resort project

Developer Sea Mountain Five LLC is partnering with environmentalist and ocean explorer Jean-Michel Cousteau in planning a 434-acre resort in Punalu'u on the Big Island, the developer announced yesterday.
The project, which is pending the approval of an environmental impact statement and a special management area permit, will include a 300-room "eco-hotel," marine conservation, education and Hawaiian cultural center, coastal preservation and recreation zone and programs.
WEB SITE ASKS FOR INFORMATION
Users of The Honolulu Advertiser Web site will see a registration page when they log on today to www.honoluluadvertiser.com.
The registration, which asks three questions on ZIP code, age and gender, is aimed at gathering information to help the free site increase revenue and readership.
Users should only have to register once using the same computer.

AWAKUNI NAMED TO ADVOCATE POST
Catherine Awakuni, counsel to the state Public Utilities Commission, has been named the state's new consumer advocate. She will take over as executive director of the state Division of Consumer Advocacy on Sept. 18.
Awakuni, 37, replaces John Cole, who joined the Public Utilities Commission at the end of June.
