A Honolulu woman was sentenced yesterday to 20 years in a federal prison after she pleaded guilty to conspiring to possess and distribute methamphetamine.

Zasha Kahale Botelho, 28, pleaded guilty in October 2005 and attempted to withdraw her plea. But U.S. District Judge Michael Seabright denied her request.

Botelho was convicted of paying another person $1,000 to accept a parcel that contained more than 3 pounds of methamphetamine, or "ice," according to the U.S. Attorney's office. Botelho arranged for the package to be sent from Alameda, Calif., and was arrested along with another person after authorities were alerted to the suspicious package, the U.S. Attorney said.

At the time of her arrest, Botelho was on federal supervised release on a heroin trafficking conviction.

The case was investigated by the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration and prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Beverly Wee Sameshima.
