Yonus Davis rushed for a career-high 199 yards in host San Jose State's 44-10 win over Louisiana Tech yesterday — the Spartans' seventh straight victory at home.
Davis ran for 168 yards in the first half, scoring twice as the Spartans (5-2, 2-1 WAC) continued their best start in 14 years.
The Spartans held the Bulldogs, who rushed for 344 yards in last week's win over Utah State, to 41 yards rushing. Yesterday's defeat was the fifth straight on the road for Louisiana Tech (2-6, 1-3).
Davis scored on runs of 7 and 90 yards as San Jose State rushed for a season-high 476 yards.
Spartans quarterback Adam Tafralis threw for 163 yards, including a 49-yard touchdown pass to John Broussard.
Hawai'i hosts Louisiana Tech on Nov. 11, and San Jose State on Nov. 18.
Nevada 48, New MexiCo St. 21: Linebacker Joshua Mauga forced one fumble and recovered another to lead host Nevada (5-3, 2-2 WAC) over New Mexico State (2-6, 0-4).
Running back Robert Hubbard ran for 114 yards and a touchdown, and receiver Caleb Spencer, a Kamehameha Schools alum, caught two scoring passes for Nevada.
Hawai'i beat visiting Nevada, 41-34, on Oct. 7.
Alabama 38, Florida International 3: Freshman Javier Arenas returned a punt 65 yards for a touchdown and Ramzee Robinson scored on a 34-yard interception return, leading host Alabama (6-3) over Florida International (0-8).
The winless Golden Panthers were playing without nine starters and nine reserves, who were suspended or dismissed for their actions in an ugly brawl in their last game two weeks ago against Miami.
Alabama beat visiting Hawai'i, 25-17, on Sept. 2.
Utah 45, UNLV 23: Brett Ratliff tied his career high with four touchdown passes and JJ Williams returned an interception for a touchdown to help host Utah (5-4, 3-2 Mountain West) beat UNLV (1-7, 0-4).
Brent Casteel caught three of Ratliff's touchdown passes and Utah extended UNLV's losing streak to seven, beating the Rebels for the 11th time in 12 meetings.
Hawai'i beat visiting UNLV, 42-13, on Sept. 16.
Tenn.-Martin 15, E. Illinois 9: Donald Chapman rushed for 94 yards and a touchdown and host Tennessee-Martin (7-1, 4-0 Ohio Valley) beat Eastern Illinois (5-4, 4-1).
It was the Skyhawks' seventh straight victory, and Eastern Illinois saw its 13-game league winning streak snapped.
Hawai'i beat visiting Eastern Illinois, 44-9, on Sept. 30.
Penn State 12, Purdue 0: Tony Hunt ran for 142 yards and visiting Penn State (6-3, 4-2 Big Ten) earned its first shutout in four years with a win over Purdue (5-4, 2-3).
Purdue hadn't been shut out since Sept. 14, 1996, against Notre Dame.
Hawai'i hosts Purdue on Nov. 25.
