Team Hawai'i Kanaono wins softball tourney

Team Hawai'i Kanaono defeated a team from Fresno, Calif., 16-11, to win the men's 60-over division of the World Masters Softball Tournament.
The tournament, hosted by the Las Vegas Senior Softball Association, was from Sept. 29 to Oct. 1 in Las Vegas.
Team Hawai'i Kanaono went 2-1 in pool play and 2-0 in the championship round to reach the semifinals.
Kanaono beat Fresno, 22-16, to reach the double-elimination final. Fresno came back to win, 20-19, to force a winner-take-all championship game.
Team members, from O'ahu, Kaua'i and the Big Island, were Daniel Ayala, Samuel Barrett, David Belaski, Fred Entilla, Wardell Lancaster, William Lovell, Darrell Mattos, James Oliveira, Peter Oliveira, Guy Ruiz, Vernon Sanches, Dee Tenn, Anthony Aiwohi, Butch Ayau, Frank Daniel, Manny Dominquez, Ron Lokar, Tom Young and coach Alex Kane.
Twelve teams participated in the tournament, including four in the 60-over division. Other teams were from Las Vegas and Florida.
A team coached by Kane also won in this tournament in 2003.
