On City Council salary raises

Honolulu voters will decide on 12 possible changes to the city charter in the Nov. 7 general election. The charter is the city's equivalent of the state Constitution. Here's a look at one of the amendments that will appear on the ballot, part of our series examining each proposal:
CHARTER QUESTION NO. 7
Should the City Council's power to reject Salary Commission recommendations be eliminated?
VOTE YES OR NO
The arguments: Currently, the City Council has the power to reject members' own pay raises, which puts members in the politically difficult position of approving their own raises. This change would take away that responsibility and place it in the hands of appointees on the Salary Commission.
