Injured Kapolei bicyclist, 68, dies

A bicyclist injured Sept. 29 when struck by a pickup truck at Kalaeloa died Monday at The Queen's Medical Center.
Police said the bicyclist, a 68-year-old man from Kapolei, was broadsided by a Ford pickup truck at Enterprise Avenue and Shangrila Street at 2 p.m.
The death is O'ahu's 75th traffic fatality of the year.
CHARTERS' BUDGET ADDS 1K PER CHILD
The Board of Education Committee on Budget and Fiscal Accountability yesterday approved the charter schools operating budget for fiscal biennium 2007-09.
If approved by the full board, the budget would result in an increase of more than $1,000 per student for fiscal years 2007-08 and 2008-90, the BOE said in a press release.
The proposed budget will be considered by the full board at its general meeting today.
Budget committee chairman Garrett Toguchi stated his support for the charter schools and his hope that the increase of more than $20 million over the biennium will help the charter schools continue to improve their performance.

HOME INVASION SUSPECTS ARRESTED
Charges are pending against two Waipahu men in connection with a home invasion robbery Sept. 27 in Salt Lake.
Police from the Pearl City patrol district arrested a 37-year-old man early Tuesday evening at a residence on the 94-1000 block of Waipahu Street and booked him for first-degree robbery and kidnapping. A second man, 28, was arrested yesterday in Waipahu and booked for the offense.
Police said the two men allegedly displaying guns went to a home at Ala Kapuna Street and robbed a man of a large sum of cash and jewelry.

TWO INJURED IN CRASH NEAR KAHE POINT
Two people were injured yesterday in a collision between a Ford Explorer and Honda Civic, which police said crossed the median to the wrong side of Farrington Highway near Kahe Point.
Police said the car, driven by a 39-year-old man, appeared to be speeding toward Wai'anae when it veered off the highway and across the median and into traffic headed in the opposite direction.
The collision was reported to police at 8:38 a.m.
The car's driver is in serious condition at The Queen's Medical Center.
A 23-year-old woman who was driving the SUV is hospitalized in good condition, police said.

HI-5¢ DRIVE AT STAR OF THE SEA
In coordination with Make a Difference Day, The Star of the Sea Early Learning Center will hold a HI-5¢ recycling drive from 8 a.m. to noon Oct. 28 at The Star of the Sea Church, 4469 Malia Street.
Donated glass, plastic and can items should be sorted. Money raised by the recycling drive will help pay for scholarships and teacher wish-list items.
