TONIGHT'S MUST-SEE

"The Music in Me: Children's Recitals From Classical to Latin, Jazz to Zydeco," 3:30 p.m., HBO. You'll emerge feeling bubbly about kids, music and, maybe, life. Kids were asked to send tapes of themselves performing. Then crews filmed six of them. You'll love the 7-year-old accordionist from Frilot Cove, La. Not much bigger than his instrument, he continues a zydeco style his great-grandfather mastered. Others, all pre-teen, include a drummer, a trumpeter, a cellist, a singer-songwriter and a remarkable, 11-year-old Latin jazz flutist.

OF LOCAL NOTE

Gubernatorial debate, 6 p.m., KFVE. A live debate between Hawai'i gubernatorial candidates Republican Gov. Linda Lingle and Democrat Randall Iwase.

OF NOTE

"Forrest Gump" (1994), 3 p.m., and "Cast Away" (2000), 6 p.m.; TNT. Tom Hanks is excellent in both films. "Gump," in particular, is a delight, as a good-hearted and simple-minded soul seems to be entwined in all history. In "Cast Away," Hanks plays a man stranded on a desert island after a plane crash.

"Walk the Line" (2005), 6:30 p.m., HBO. Johnny Cash's life was crowded enough to fill several movies. This film rushes through his early years then focuses on the tortured and triumphant relationship of Cash and June Carter; they're superbly played by Joaquin Phoenix and Reese Witherspoon.

"Criminal Minds," 7 p.m., CBS. Geoff Pierson, who starred in "Unhappily Ever After" and played President Keller in the 2005 "24," guest-stars. He plays a retired profiler obsessed with a serial killer who may be back in action.

"Save the Last Dance 2: Stepping Up," 9 p.m., MTV. The original movie, in 2001, had Julia Stiles as a teenage classical dancer learning hip-hop. This sequel finds her in the prestigious Juilliard School still torn between styles. Only this time she's played by Izabella Miko, a Polish-born ballerina-turned-actress.

"Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone" (2001), 9 p.m., Disney Channel. This is probably too late for the kids but grown-ups will find it to be a well-made adventure.
