12,000 on strike at Goodyear

AKRON, Ohio — Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co., with 12,000 union employees on strike at 16 plants in the U.S. and Canada, will turn to managers, inventory and tires from overseas to try to keep things going.The United Steelworkers of America terminated a day-to-day contract extension yesterday and quickly set up picket lines. A company spokesman said talks would not resume until tomorrow at the earliest.
DUNN BOOKED IN HP SCANDAL
SAN JOSE, Calif. — Ousted Hewlett-Packard Co. chairwoman Patricia Dunn surrendered to authorities yesterday, a day after she and four others were charged in HP's ill-fated investigation to ferret out the source of boardroom leaks.
Dunn, 53, who initiated the probe that has shaken Silicon Valley's largest and oldest technology company, made a brief appearance in Santa Clara County Superior Court to sign a promise to return on Nov. 17 for her arraignment.
L.A. TIMES CHIEF OUSTED OVER CUTS
CHICAGO — Tribune Co. yesterday ousted Jeffrey Johnson, the publisher of its largest newspaper, the Los Angeles Times, after Johnson refused to make what he considered potentially damaging staff cuts ordered by the media conglomerate. Chicago Tribune publisher David Hiller was named to succeed Johnson.
