Lingle's inaugural fest set for Monday
Advertiser Staff
Compared to the parade, fireworks and ball that marked their first inauguration in 2002, Gov. Linda Lingle and Lt. Gov. James "Duke" Aiona have relatively low-key plans to kick off their second term on Monday.
The two will be officially sworn in at the Capitol at noon, but the festivities begin at 9:30 a.m. with entertainment by the Royal Hawaiian Band and the 111th Army Band of the Hawai'i Army National Guard.
The inauguration ceremony begins at 11 a.m. and will include more music, a 19-gun cannon salute and a military flyover, along with Chief Justice Ronald Moon administering the oath of office to both Lingle and Aiona. Seating for 1,000 will be available, with some reserved for guests and the rest open to the general public on a first-come, first-served basis.
The inauguration, including speeches, will be followed by a luncheon at Washington Place for Cabinet members, Neighbor Island liaisons, members of the Governor's Neighbor Island councils of advisers and their families and guests.
A dinner will be held Monday evening at 'Iolani Palace. Tickets are $250 per seat.
The ceremony and luncheon will cost less than $55,000 and will be taken from the governor's budget. No public funds or resources will be used for the dinner.
The governor's office said portions of the inauguration will be broadcast live on TV stations KITV, KHON, KGMB and KHNL. It will also be Webcast in its entirety — including the pre-ceremony festivities — on the governor's Web site at www.hawaii.gov/gov.
