A Florida man sexually assaulted a 15-year-old girl on three separate days after he met her through the Internet and flew to Honolulu, according to an O'ahu grand jury indictment yesterday.
Anthony Scott Waterman, 33, was indicted by the grand jury on 13 counts of first-degree and third-degree sexual assault, accusing him of having sex with a girl 14 to 16 years old who was not his wife and who is five years younger than him.
City Deputy Prosecutor Vickie Kapp told Circuit Judge Derrick Chan that Waterman met the girl over the Internet, flew to Hawai'i, spent a week with her and took her to a hotel room, where the sexual offenses took place.
Waterman is accused of six counts of first-degree sexual assault and five counts of third-degree sexual assault. The alleged crimes took place on Nov. 19 when he allegedly took her to a hotel room on Lihikai Drive in Kane'ohe.
He was arrested two days later at Honolulu International Airport.
The indictment also charges Waterman with one count of third-degree sexual assault on Nov. 12 and another count of third-degree sexual assault on Nov. 15.
First-degree sexual assault carries a maximum 20-year prison term. Third-degree sexual assault is punishable by up to five years in prison.
Kapp also told the judge that Waterman has 11 other arrests outside of Hawai'i, but did not elaborate. She later said she did not immediately have any other information about the arrests, including whether any resulted in a conviction.
Chan approved Kapp's request to confirm the bail in the amount of $250,000.
Waterman will be arraigned later, at which time he is expected to plead not guilty and get a trial date.
