Helemano Farms owner Aaron O'Brien has not only opened up his Central O'ahu tree farm for Christmas (2 p.m. until dark weekdays, 10 a.m. until dark weekends), he's offering free trees to local charities "to get the Christmas spirit out there a little," he said. It's one per group with proof of nonprofit status. The rest of us will pay $30 for a 6-foot, freshly cut Norfolk pine (you pick it, they cut it down) or up to $90 for a 12-footer; 622-4287 or www.helemanofarms.com. — Advertiser staff

ON STAGE

DEAD OR ALIVE IN 'FISH HEAD SOUP'

What sort of secrets and shame pops up when a family's youngest son, presumably dead, shows up at the front door? That's the setup for "Fish Head Soup" tonight at UH-Manoa Earle Ernst Lab Theatre. The production runs through Dec. 10; $12 (discounts available); 956-7655, 483-7123.

FINAL WORD

"What you hope is that if you run, the press and the public are respectful of children and their need for space. If they are not, then I promise you my wife would hunt people down. She's a tigress when it comes to her cubs."
