Wahiawa man had drowned

The Honolulu medical examiner's office identified the man who died Sunday after being pulled from the waters at Bellows Beach in Waimanalo as Alvin Wilkes, 49, of Wahiawa.
An autopsy determined Wilkes drowned, and his death was ruled to be accidental.

HEARING TODAY ON LAWS FOR CABINS
The City Council Zoning Committee will hold a public hearing to amend the city's land use laws to require public hearings whenever a developer proposes plans for vacation cabins on preservation-zoned land.
The hearing is at 9 a.m. today in the City Council meeting room, second floor.
Two measures are being considered, prompted by a developer's plan to build vacation cabins along the Ka Iwi Shoreline in East Honolulu.
The proposed amendments would require public hearings whenever a developer submits plans for recreation uses and cabins on preservation-zoned land.

MISSING SURFER RETURNS HOME
A 26-year-old surfer who was reported missing Sunday night turned up at his home yesterday morning, police in Wai'anae said.
The Honolulu Fire Department had resumed the search for the surfer yesterday morning outside the Wai'anae Boat Harbor, but the surfer was already home, police said.
The surfer was reported missing at 8:20 p.m. Sunday.
KIDNAP, ATTACK BY WOMEN REPORTED
Four women allegedly forced a 34-year-old woman into their vehicle in the Wai'anae area about 11 Sunday night, drove her to a remote area and beat and robbed her, police said.
The woman suffered face and neck injuries. One of the attackers wielded a knife, police said, and the woman said she knew one of the attackers.

SUSPECT WITH GUN ARRESTED
An argument involving a handgun and a knife led Ho-nolulu police to arrest a 34-year-old man near Wilikina Drive yesterday morning.
The man, who reportedly left the scene of the argument in a white Mercedes-Benz, was later apprehended by police just before 1 a.m. with a loaded and cocked .357-caliber handgun and a glass pipe containing white residue, police said.
He was arrested on suspicion of firearms and drug offenses.

BOYFRIEND HELD ON ABUSE ALLEGATIONS
A 37-year-old man has been arrested for allegedly abusing a family member after police said he twice tried to strangle his 27-year-old girlfriend.
One incident allegedly occurred Friday. During the second alleged incident on Sunday night, the man reportedly also hit the woman with a chair. The alleged attacks began as arguments on Ka'uiki Street in 'Ewa Beach, police said.

HIGH SCHOOL HI-5¢ DRIVE ON SATURDAY
Mililani High School's Project Graduation 2007 committee is holding a HI-5¢ can and bottle drive Saturday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the school's parking lot. The group will accept donations of redeemable aluminum cans, plastic bottles and glass bottles.
Future can and bottle drives will be held at the same time and place on the first Saturday of each month through May. For information, call 625-9876.
