Chess tournaments bring trophies and medals in several categories — open, novice and team included.

That said, here is a sampling of some of the winners of the 2006 Veterans Day Interscholastic chess tournament at Aliamanu Middle School.

Winner in final standings, open division, grades K-12: Charles Sonido.

Team, open division: Punahou.

Individual prizes, open division: Charles Sonido, Robert Lau, John Iinuma, William Chen, Aaron Bright, Alex Farrell, Chris Safranca and Kevin Erick.

Novice division: Roy Yang.

Individual, open, K-6: Tristan Kaonohi.

Individual, open, K-8: William Chen.
