Kaimuki Christian School is holding a rummage sale tomorrow to benefit Principal Mark Gallagher who has myeloma, a rare blood cancer. FESTIVAL FOCUSES ON SOUTHEAST ASIA

The second annual Southeast Asian Lantern Festival takes place from noon to 7 p.m. tomorrow at Ala Moana Beach Park's Magic Island.

Members of the Thai, Laotian, Cambodian and Burmese communities combine their efforts for the event, which is free to the public.

Traditional dances, Thai kickboxing demonstrations, Burmese palm readings and food booths will be among the offerings. It will culminate in the floating of lanterns at sunset, about 5:50 p.m.

Traditionally, the festival is held during the full moon of the 12th lunar month. The festival originated in Thailand 800 years ago as a means of offering thanks to Mae Khongka, the goddess of water, for helping sustain life throughout the year.

Lantern floats will be available for purchase at the Thai Association of Hawai'i tent for about $5, said festival co-chairwoman Ichaya Danapong. For information call 949-9707.
