Nevada ends Hawai'i's season, 3-0

Samantha Miller scored twice as Nevada knocked off Hawai'i, 3-0, yesterday, in the quarterfinals of the women's Western Athletic Conference soccer tournament at Reno, Nev.

Miller scored her two goals in the first 10 minutes of the match to lead Nevada (12-4-3) into a semifinal match today against Utah State.

The third goal was an own-goal by Hawai'i at the 48-minute mark. UH ends its season at 8-11-2.

In another match yesterday, San Jose State (7-10-3) beat Boise State (7-7-4), 4-2 on penalty kicks, to advance to a semifinal match today against Fresno State.

ELSEWHERE

Taryn Fukuroku and Jessica Domingo of the University of Hawai'i have been named to CoSIDA/ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District VIII women's soccer teams.

Fukuroku, a sophomore from Wailuku, Maui, was a second-team selection. She has a 3.36 grade-point average in general arts and sciences.

Domingo, a junior from Honolulu, was named to the third team. She holds a 3.53 GPA as a kinesiology and leisure sciences major.

Student-athletes must be a starter or key reserve and have a minimum GPA of 3.2 to be considered. District VIII includes Alaska, Arizona, California, Idaho, Nevada, Oregon, Utah, Washington and Hawai'i.
