Motorcycle crash victim identified

A 31-year-old man who died Monday after a Sunday motorcycle crash in Hawai'i Kai has been identified as Jesse M. Mori.
Police said Mori was operating a 2002 Honda motorcycle southbound on Keahole Street, near Kalaniana'ole Highway, when he crashed into a tree after hitting a curb at 1:30 a.m. Sunday. Mori, who was not wearing a helmet, was thrown from the motorcycle.
He died Monday at The Queen's Medical Center.
Investigators said speed and alcohol appear to be factors in the crash.
MAN INJURED IN FALL FROM LOOKOUT
A man posing for a picture fell 25 feet off a ledge at the Lana'i Lookout yesterday afternoon.
The 32-year-old man, who is here visiting, landed on lava rocks and was taken to The Queen's Medical Center in serious condition with scrapes to his head, hip and leg, firefighters said. The man's friends thought he had fallen into the ocean and drove to Sandy Beach to alert lifeguards.
Lifeguards arrived at the lookout and called firefighters, Fire Capt. John Kino said.
Firefighters carried the injured man up the cliff to a waiting ambulance. Warning signs are posted at the lookout.

PUNA MAN HELD IN GUNFIRE INCIDENT
Big Island police have arrested a 48-year-old Puna man who they said fired shots in the Kalapana Black Sands subdivision on Sunday evening.
Police said they were called to the subdivision at about 7:15 p.m., and were told the man threw a large rock through the window of the home of another man, 43.
The 43-year-old man told police he then went to the rock thrower's home to confront him and the other man pointed a gun at him. The 43-year-old man left, but told police the gunman came to his home later that night and fired several shots. No one was injured.
A police Special Response Team arrested the 48-year-old Puna man early Monday.

TEACHER TO ATTEND SPACE PROGRAM
Priddy Tinell, a teacher at Our Savior Lutheran School, has been selected to participate in the prestigious 2006 Honeywell Educators Space Academy program June 16-28 at the U.S. Space & Rocket Center in Huntsville, Ala. Tinell joins 200 science and math teachers from 19 countries and 43 states to complete an intensive educator curriculum focused on space science, including astronaut training.
The program is part of Honeywell Hometown Solutions, the company's community outreach initiative.

262 TO GRADUATE FROM PHOENIX
The University of Phoenix Hawai'i campus will graduate 262 students at a ceremony at Blaisdell Concert Hall scheduled for 2 p.m. June 25. The public can greet graduates on the concert hall lawn at 4:30 p.m.

PERUVIAN EXPATS VOTE ON SUNDAY
Peruvian citizens living in Hawai'i can vote in the second round of presidential elections, which will be held in Peru on Sunday.
Honolulu voting will take place from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Saint Clement's Church at 1515 Wilder Ave. in Makiki.
Voters will need their original DNI identity cards with a Hawai'i address. Those who do not have these should report to the polling place anyway to make a request to be excused from the $40 fine for not voting.
