State's oldest full-time teacher retires
|
|
McKinley High School English teacher Amy Berglund, right, received a hug from fellow teacher Laverne Moore at a retirement party yesterday for Berglund, 86, who has taught at McKinley since 1968. The native of Moorhead, Minn., known by her students as "Bergie," has been a teacher of the year at McKinley and collects breakfast tickets at the cafeteria. "I never dreamed I would teach this long," she said. "I'd always get into something new. McKinley is the greatest school in Hawai'i, I think." She plans to take classes in computers and French and to travel with her husband, Rex, a retired Navy commander.
