Hawai'i's top chefs head for Waikoloa fest

The Great Waikoloa Food, Wine & Music Festival at the Hilton Waikoloa Village is set for June 24, the culmination of four days of events that make up the 12th annual Dolphin Days celebration.
Held on the Palace Lawn, the Food, Wine & Music Festival features food sampling, numerous beverage purveyors, a benefit silent auction, jazz music and a fireworks display.
Tickets are $140 until June 15, $150 after June 15; children's tickets are $75, ages 5 to 12. Reservations: (808) 886-1234.
More than 30 chefs will participate, among them Paul Gamache and Justin Cann of Merriman's, Jaqueline Lau of Roy's Waikoloa, Russell Siu of 3660 On The Rise, Loetree Berry of Huggo's, Bill Bruhl of BluWater Grill, Daniel Lagarde of Hilton Hawaiian Village, Fred DeAngelo of Olino Events, Michael Rose of Longhi's, John Zaner of The Ritz-Carlton Kapalua, Ben Takahashi of Sheraton Keauhou Bay Resort & Spa and Greg Gaspar of the Maui Prince Hotel.
All will be hosted by Hilton Waikoloa Village executive chef Kenny Omiya.
KAUA'I CHEF EARNS TOP HONORS
Mark Reinfeld of the Blossoming Lotus vegetarian restaurant in Kapa'a, Kaua'i, has been named chef of the year in the "Live Food" category by the Aspen Center for Integral Health.
He and sous chef Jennifer Murray will teach a cooking class at the Healthy Gourmet Fest Tasting Dinner at The Ritz-Carlton Aspen in July.
Reinfeld is co-author of "Vegan World Fusion Cuisine" (2004).
