Horizon Lines raises surcharge

Horizon Lines will increase its fuel surcharge for its Hawai'i and Guam service from 18.5 percent to 21.25 percent on June 5.
Horizon's fuel surcharge increase matches that of Matson Navigation Co., which announced earlier this month it will raise its surcharge June 4. It will be Horizon and Matson's sixth fuel surcharge increase since April of last year. Both companies cited increased fuel costs and said they are monitoring fuel prices regularly.
HAWAI'I TOPS IN HONEYMOON POLL
Hawai'i was rated the top honeymoon destination for the ninth consecutive year in a survey of 6,000 travel agents by Modern Bride magazine.
Among the resorts getting special mention were the Grand Wailea (minimum $405 a night) on Maui, which garnered a top spot for its spa, and the Four Seasons Hualalai (minimum $625 a night) on the Big Island.
UNDER-30S LACK HEALTH COVERAGE
NEW YORK — Young adults between the ages of 19 and 29 are the largest and fastest-growing segment of the U.S. population lacking health insurance, according to a report released today.
Young adults made up 40 percent of the 6 million people who joined the ranks of the uninsured from 2000 to 2004, the last year for which data are available, according to The Commonwealth Fund, which issued the report. Although young adults represent 17 percent of the under-65 population, they account for 30 percent of the uninsured non-elderly, the study said.
PHILADELPHIA NEWSPAPERS SOLD
PHILADELPHIA — McClatchy Co. is selling The Philadelphia Inquirer and the Philadelphia Daily News for $562 million to a group of local investors who hope to reverse circulation declines by emphasizing local news and doing more with the Internet.
The papers are among 12 that McClatchy doesn't plan to keep once it completes its purchase of Knight Ridder Inc.
