FESTIVAL: JUNE 9-11

The 27th annual Pan-Pacific Festival — Matsuri in Hawaii celebrates the relationship between Hawai'i and the entire Pacific. The ho'olaule'a June 9 takes over Kalakaua Avenue to showcase entertainment by local and visiting performers, craft booths and a market with ethnic food. The hula festival June 10 at Ala Moana Center features dancers from around the Pacific Rim. The festival closes June 11 with a parade in Waikiki, which features taiko drummers, contemporary and traditional dancers and vibrant floats. Admission to most events is free.

FAMILY: JUNE 11

Learn about the inner workings of the human body at the Bishop Museum's upcoming exhibition, "Grossology: The (Impolite) Science of the Human Body," on Family Sunday. Take a tour of the nose, play the pinball game "Gas Attack" or explore a large-scale model of human skin. The day of in-and-out fun also features activities, planetarium shows and entertainment. The exhibition runs from June 10 through Aug. 27. Admission for Family Sunday is $3 kama'aina and military and free for museum members and children younger than 3. Bank of Hawaii customers or employees who show a bank card or statement can receive free admission for up to two people.

Take to the sea this summer when the Waikiki Aquarium revives its Ke Kani O Ke Kai summer concert series of oceanside shows, beginning with Grammy-nominated Raiatea Helm. Subsequent concerts will feature Willie K, Keahiwai, Olomana and Na Palapalai. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. Tickets are $18 general, $10 ages 7-12 and free for 6 and younger. Friends of Waikiki Aquarium members pay $15 general and $7 ages 7-12.

We never get enough of The Makaha Sons — they celebrate 30 years of music at the 4th annual Paradise Yellow Pages Take a Walk in the Country event. In the lineup: The Brothers Cazimero, Hapa, Daniel Ho and Herb Ohta Jr., Hoku Zuttermeister, Ho'okena and Na Kama. And da kine buffet. Tickets are $100 on the floor for the dinner and show; $30 for loge seating, show only; and two for $30 for upper-level seating, show only.

Two days of hip-swiveling fun are in store at the 6th annual Puerto Rican Salsa Festival. Salsathon 2006 celebrates El Dia de San Juan with the live beats of Son Caribe, El Conjunto Tropical, Nova, Charlie Y Charlie, Los Maliantes, Castro and more. Besides live music, the festival features salsa workshops, dance performances, dance competition, silent auction, arts and crafts and food. Tickets are $10 in advance, $15 on the day of the event. Military and those 60 and older pay $8, while those 12 and younger enter free.
