Former UH ADs Durham, Nagel bound for Hall of Fame

Advertiser Staff

Former University of Hawai'i athletic directors Paul Durham and Ray Nagel are among 22 athletic administrators who will be inducted into the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics Hall of Fame, according to the school.

The inductees will be honored at NACDA's 41st Annual Convention, June 20 to 23, in New Orleans.

Durham was a longtime football coach (122-51-10 record) and AD at Linfield College, before taking over athletic administration duties at UH in 1968.

Under Durham, UH athletics went from a club program to the threshold of Division I. Although he retired as AD in 1975, Durham continued to teach classes until 1981.

Nagel also was a longtime football coach and AD at Washington State before taking over at UH, where he served from 1976 to 1983.

TRACK AND FIELD

UH HONORS WEAVER

Meghan Weaver was named Outstanding Athlete of the Year at the University of Hawai'i women's track and field banquet.

The sophomore from London, Ontario became the first athlete in school history to qualify for the NCAA regionals in three events this season — discus, shot put and hammer throw. She placed fourth in the discus, ninth in the hammer and 10th in the shot at last week's Western Athletic Conference Championships.

Other award winners: junior pole vaulter Tiara Krismunando (Most Improved Athlete), sophomore Chantelle Laan (Most Sportsmanlike Athlete), Emily Sheppard (Freshman of the Year) and sophomore Annett Wichmann (Most Inspirational).

Last week at the WAC meet, Laan ran a personal-best 18:13.96 in the 5,000, Sheppard high-jumped 5-8 3/4 to win gold and Wichmann won the heptathlon.
