TONIGHT'S MUST-SEE

"Prison Break" season finale, 7 p.m., Fox. It turns out that breaking out of prison is pretty difficult. Even after brilliant plans, this break has had close calls and disasters. When the final rush began last week, things got worse. The oldest prisoner died (from wounds in an earlier fight), and the chubbiest one was captured. The others made it out, but they're barely ahead of the guards. Tonight, they try their wild dash. On the outside the women are troubled. Dr. Sara Tancredi, the governor's daughter, risked her career by agreeing to leave unlocked the infirmary from which the prisoners escaped. Lawyer Veronica Donovan's colleague was promptly killed for setting her free. Then there's Vice President Caroline Reynolds, whom the plotters have lost faith in. "Prison Break" is tough on women and men; it also tends to be well-made and — despite constantly straining credibility — thoroughly entertaining.

"Oprah Winfrey's Legends Ball," 7 p.m., ABC. A year ago, Oprah Winfrey celebrated 25 great black women at a luncheon, a formal ball and a gospel brunch. Here are highlights. John Legend sings a ballad; Patti LaBelle, Gladys Knight and Dionne Warwick (all honorees) combine with Chaka Khan for gospel music. Adding interviews and other footage, Winfrey celebrates such giants as Maya Angelou, Lena Horne, Diana Ross and Toni Morrison. She also offers a chance to see civil rights pioneers Rosa Parks and Coretta Scott King, who died subsequently.

"How I Met Your Mother," 7:30 p.m., CBS. Stick with this because the final few minutes are terrific. Up until then it's an OK episode that has Ted trying one more grand gesture in order to lure Robin.

"Two and a Half Men," 8 p.m., CBS. Charlie had previously broken up with Mia (Emmanuelle Vaugier), the beautiful dance teacher who prefers art and conversation to sex. Now she surprises him by giving him tickets to her recital.

"Grey's Anatomy," 8 and 9 p.m., ABC. The Sunday-night hit airs two episodes — which could be its home next season. Doctors are desperately seeking a new heart for Denny; meanwhile, Derek operates on a friend and Cristina faces chaos in the emergency room.

"24," 8 p.m., Fox. The show sets up next week's two-hour finale. A unforeseen pact is made.

"The New Adventures of Old Christine," 8:30 p.m., CBS. Unhappy that her ex-husband is taking their son to a rock concert, Christine spies on them.

"CSI: Miami," 9 p.m., CBS. After a gang member escapes from custody an attempt is made on Horatio's life.

"The Apprentice," 9 p.m., NBC. Nudging an hour later than usual, this show now has five people left. They compete to design a store's display for a video-game console.
