BYUH women win NCAA tennis title

Brigham Young-Hawai'i defeated Armstrong Atlantic State (Ga.), 5-3, to win its sixth NCAA Division II women's tennis championship yesterday at Kansas City, Mo.
The second-ranked Seasid-ers (27-0) regained the title from top-ranked Armstrong Atlantic State (30-1), which beat BYUH in the 2005 final. It is BYUH's fourth NCAA title in five years under coach Dave Porter.
BYUH got doubles wins from Julia Ustyuzhanina and Tetyana Bula and Petra Teller and Gurianna Korinihona. The Seasiders closed out Armstrong Atlantic State with singles victories from Ramona Husaru, Bula and Teller.
RECRUITING
KAMEHAMEHA CATCHER TO PLAY FOR TOREROS
Kamehameha senior catcher Stuart Kam said he has signed a letter of intent to play baseball at the University of San Diego.
Kam also had offers from Pepperdine and San Francisco. He said the Toreros told him he would be given a chance to vie for a starting position as a freshman.
"They said they'll need a catcher for next year," he said.
The Toreros, who play in the West Coast Conference, have 2003 Kamehameha graduate Keoni Ruth, who starts at second base. Ruth was drafted by the Kansas City Royals out of high school, but opted to play at the Division I school. Ruth, a junior, is eligible for the draft next month and might not be there when Kam arrives in the fall.
Also, Kamehameha senior shortstop Aaron Nichols said he has accepted an invitation to walk-on at Oregon State for football. Nichols was an all-state second team wide receiver last football season for the Warriors. He does not know if he will continue playing baseball at OSU, which is ranked fourth in the nation by Baseball America.

TICKET ORDERS BEING TAKEN FOR ROAD GAMES
The University of Hawai'i athletic ticket office is taking ticket orders for all five Warrior road football games, including Alabama, the athletic department announced.
Tickets are available to all customers, not just season ticket holders.
Ticket may be ordered by calling 956-4482.
Although road tickets are not currently available online, the department is working toward making that option available in the future, it said.

FOUR HAWAI'I SAILORS NAMED ALL-CONFERENCE
Four University of Hawai'i sailors were named to the Pacific Coast Collegiate Sailing Conference's all-conference teams.
Senior Meredith Adams of Annapolis, Md., was named all-crew and Bryan Lake of San Diego earned coed all-skipper honors. They helped Hawai'i to victories at the PCCSC Fall Dinghy Championships and the Rainbow Invite. They also guided UH to runner-up finishes at two other regattas. UH did not qualify for the nationals this year.
Sophomore Tinja Anderson-Mitterling of Coronado, Calif., and junior Shandy Buckley of Whangarei, New Zealand, earned women's skipper honors. Anderson-Mitterling won the Women's Singlehanded Pacific Coast Championships in October. Buckley helped the Rainbow Wahine to their eighth nationals berth in the past nine years.
UH will participate in the ICSA Women's National Championship, May 24 to 26 in Charleston, S.C.
