Hawaiian culture takes center stage

The Hawaiian heritage group is the focus of this month's "Relive the Plantation Days" festival at the Hawai'i Plantation Village in Waipahu.
Among the highlights:
• A Hawaiian herbal medicine presentation by Moses Pakaki, 10 a.m. in the Gentry Room.
• A session on hands-on Hawaiian healing through lomilomi, by licensed practitioners who worked with kumu Janice Keonaona Kalua.
Other attractions include entertainment, taro-pounding, hula and crafts demonstrations, a Chinese dragon game, a Filipino martial-arts demo and ethnic-food sampling.
Hours are from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. today. Admission is $7 general, $4 kama'aina and military, free for plantation village members and kids 12 and younger.
