TONIGHT'S MUST-SEE

"The Office," 8:30 p.m., NBC. Michael is at his most dangerous (and most humorous) when he's wielding a procedures manual. Tonight, he has one for conflictresolution. Suddenly, he's spouting things about lose-lose and lose-win situations, and much more. It's all psycho-jumble and it's dangerous in Michael's hands. "The Office" continues to juggle the droll style of the British series with the bigger laughs Americans expect.

"Texas Ranch House" finale, 8 p.m., PBS. As the cattle drive ends this reality show tests ranch owner Bill Cooke on two fronts. One is his skill as a negotiator; he must get enough money to pay the mortgage. The other is his ability as a people-manager. That last part has been his failing throughout the show. In the final hour, things crumble. This is a much tougher, more emotional show than we had imagined from PBS. Stick around, because you'll enjoy historians' sharply worded assessment.

"American Inventor," 7 and 8 p.m., ABC. Each hour has three semi-finalists take $50,000 and develop their ideas. One of the three is sent to the finals.

"Will & Grace," 7 p.m., NBC. Will's life is overcrowded these days. He's supposed to go to childbirth classes with Grace, then help her raise the baby. He's also distracted by the notion of reviving his relationship with Vince.

"My Name is Earl," 7:30 and 8 p.m., NBC. In the first episode, Earl tries to make amends for stealing gas from a car. That introduces him to a suicidal and annoying chap, played by Adam Goldberg. In the second, he tries to reunite a former girlfriend with her father.

"CSI: Crime Scene Investigation," 8 p.m., CBS. Shortly after winning $10,000 at a casino, a man spends the night with a woman he just met and gets killed.

"ER," 9 p.m., NBC. At the medical clinic in Darfur, Dr. Pratt is overwhelmed by the needs of people around him. Tonight, he and Dr. Dakarai (Eamonn Walker) must get a patient to a hospital; that requires a dangerous night journey through an area where there are armed militants.
