TONIGHT'S MUST-SEE

"The Bedford Diaries" debut, 8 p.m., WB. Sex is the lure here. A college professor (Matthew Modine) has a seminar on sexual behavior. We'll spend a little time with faculty members — including Modine and Audra McDonald — and a lot with six students in his class. One plot line — involving the vengeful editor of the student newspaper (Milo Ventimiglia) — seems false and contrived. There's another quirk: We're told this class is tough to get into. Still it has at least two freshmen. Once we get past that, however, "Bedford" has potential. There's an intelligent script with Tom Fontana ("Homicide") as one of the producers. There are also attractive young stars. Tiffany Dupont plays Sarah, the diligent president of the student government. Penn Badgely is Owen, her fun-loving brother. Ernest Waddell is Lee, a scholarship student with troubles at home. Victoria Cartagena is Zoe, brash and flirty. Most intriguing is Natalie (Corrie English): After a failed suicide attempt she's now called The Jumper. She's back on campus, embracing life.

OF NOTE

"Bones," 7 p.m., Fox. Angela's boyfriend disappeared during their vacation. Now a skull has been found in the desert.

"The George Lopez Show," 7 p.m., ABC. Eva Longoria ("Desperate Housewives") guests as a bossy bride-to-be. Things get worse after George argues with his wife and takes her place as wedding planner. The result is broad and stretched, but sometimes quite funny.

"Freddie," 7:30 p.m., ABC. Freddie's niece hosts a sleepover at his place.

"Courting Alex," 7:30 p.m., CBS. Alex is mad at her father after he uses Scott to help land a rich client.

"American Idol," 8 p.m., Fox. Someone will be eliminated, trimming the field to nine.

"Lost," 8 p.m., ABC. Ana Lucia, Sayid and Charlie plunge into the jungle. Meanwhile, there's trouble inside the hatch and Locke needs help.

"Law & Order," 8 p.m., NBC. A bank robbery goes bad, leading to a shooting and a crisis. The robbers had kidnapped the banker's daughter to force compliance. Now police race to find her. Fontana (Dennis Farina) uses extreme measures that the defense lawyer can later point to.

"Heist," 9 p.m., NBC. A getaway driver has been chosen and the jewelry scheme seems on target. Meanwhile, Amy (the eccentric police detective) has invited Mickey (the more-eccentric thief) to her dance class. Mickey's colleague James (Steve Harris) doesn't like that.

"Evidence," 9 p.m., ABC. A fighter's body is found after a boxing match.
