Kailua shuts out Kalaheo in OIA East opener, 10-0

Cowboy Alvarado and Preston Nakata combined on a six-inning, four-hitter as the Kailua Surfriders opened defense of their O'ahu Interscholastic Association title with a 10-0 victory over the Kalaheo Mustangs at Kailua Rec Center field.

The game was shortened to six innings after the Surfriders scored eight runs in the top of the sixth inning to take a 10-0 lead. Nakata pitched a scoreless bottom half of the inning to end it.

Kili Vierra went 3 for 3, while Kurt Sasaoka and Zack Akamine each had two hits to lead Kailua's 12-hit offense.

KALANI 19, FARRINGTON 1

Kenn Kamoto, Jordan Sumida and Troy Kashiwabara combined on a five-inning one-hitter, and Ridge Carpenter and Chris Pieper each drove in four runs to lead the visiting Falcons over the Governors in a game called after five innings due to the 10-run rule.

The defending OIA East champion Falcons amassed 19 hits. Andrew Banaban singled in the fourth for Farrington's lone hit.
