Hawai'i, not its baseball team, found a way to stop Louisiana Tech.

Rain washed away yesterday's series finale between the Rainbows and Bulldogs at Les Murakami Stadium. It was called off about an hour before the 1:05 p.m. start time. It will be made up when UH visits Louisiana Tech in early May. The Bulldogs, as well as the umpires, had plans to leave the state last night, so the game could not be held up with hopes of improved weather.

"That's the one fortunate thing," UH coach Mike Trapasso said. "We're playing at their place and we're able to make it up."

Unlike the past four seasons, not all Western Athletic Conference series are home-and-home. Each team has two series that are played solely at home. Trapasso said if rain washed out a series finale in a home-only series, it could not be made up. It also could not be made up if a home-and-home series is on the second leg. Last year, UH's season finale at LaTech was canceled by rain.

If anyone should be disappointed by the postponement, it would be Louisiana Tech, which took the first two games of the series. The Bulldogs, who have finished in last place the past three seasons, sit in sole possession of first in the WAC. The other WAC teams have yet to start conference play.

The Rainbows are scheduled to play at LaTech May 4 to 6. The game could be made up by way of a doubleheader. But Trapasso said the teams will see if they can stretch the series over four days since UH will play at Grambling State on May 2.

Meanwhile, the Rainbows (18-8) will try to right themselves at UH-Hilo in a two-game series at Wong Stadium starting tomorrow. Justin Costi, who was scheduled to start yesterday, will start tomorrow's 7 p.m. game for the Rainbows with Mark Rodrigues in the 2 p.m. game on Wednesday. Trapasso said the Rainbows will travel with 26 players.
