Hawai'i qualifies four divers for NCAA meet

Four University of Hawai'i divers have qualified for the NCAA Championships after the second day of the NCAA Zone-E Diving Regional at Oklahoma City.
Mats Wiktorsson finished 10th in the men's 1-meter springboard. Wiktorsson scored 560.75 points in the 1-meter event combining the 12 dives from the preliminaries and the finals. Arizona State's Joona Puhakka won with 842.10 points.
Combined with a fourth-place finish in the 3-meter event Thursday, Wiktorsson will receive one of the region's eight NCAA berths, according to UH diving coach Mike Brown.
Rui Wang and Megan Farrow finished third and fifth, respectively, in the women's 3-meter finals and also earned berths to the championships.
Defending 1-meter NCAA champion QiongJie Huang, who finished second in the 3-meter final, qualified through her second-place finish in the 1-meter final Thursday.
USC's Blythe Hartley added the 3-meter crown to her 1-meter title.
The NCAA Division I Men's Swimming and Diving Championship is March 23 to 25 at Atlanta.

MILILANI'S LOO LOSES IN 106-POUND TITLE BOUT
Chantel Cordova, 19, of Pueblo West won a 31-12 decision over Coleen Loo of Mililani, yesterday to retain her 106-pound title in the women's division of the U.S. Amateur Championships at Colorado Springs, Colo.
The taller Cordova started slowly, trailing by a point after the first round. She began scoring consistently in the second, and had a 21-8 lead at the closing bell. She continued to build the lead in the third and finished strong.
"I got real sick before this one," Cordova said. "I did it, but I needed air today."

UC SANTA BARBARA SHUTS OUT HAWAI'I, 2-0
Ginger Gutierrez scattered five hits and stranded six runners in pitching UC Santa Barbara to a 2-0 victory over the University of Hawai'i last night in the Hawaiian Airlines Spring Fling Tournament at the Rainbow Wahine Softball Stadium.
Jennifer Davis and Jackie Conlin drove in runs in the top of the seventh inning to lift the Gauchos (11-9).
Justine Smethurst (5-4) tossed a three-hitter for the Rainbow Wahine (10-9).
