Billie Holiday had a voice that would wring tears and astonishment. Her interpretation of jazz standards made her one of the greatest vocalists of all time.
Tomorrow there's a musical "Tribute to Billie Holiday," featuring jazz from the 1930s, '40s and '50s and commentary by Robert O'Meally, a jazz scholar.
Performers include vocalist Azure McCall, Jim Howard on piano, Bruce Hamada on bass, Gabe Baltazar on sax and Brandon Tucay on drums.
The tribute is from 2 to 4 p.m at Iolani School's Seto Hall. Admission is free, and public is invited; enter on Kamoku Street.
