TONIGHT'S MUST-SEE

"Conviction," 9 p.m., NBC. If you missed Friday's debut, catch this quick, next-day rerun. This show is from the "Law & Order" producers, yet is the opposite of their other shows. This episode and next week's leave viewers a bit flat, but it has terrific portraits of the young assistant district attorneys. Nick Potter (Jordan Bridges) is at the core, as a guy who grew up comfortably, landed a big-money law job then decided to try something else. He steps into rich dramatic turf.

OF NOTE

"Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow" (2004) 5 p.m., Showtime and "View From the Top" (2004) 8 p.m., ABC Family. Gwyneth Paltrow has been in some movies few people noticed. Here are two — a great-looking (but emotionally distant) adventure and a comedy about a stewardess.

"Dateline," 7 p.m., NBC. As part of the network's reshuffling, this show moves from Friday to Saturday.

"A Beautiful Mind" (2001), 7 p.m., ABC. John Nash is a brilliant mathematician whose mind has wobbled in and out of sanity. His story is told here in a brilliant screenplay by Akiva Goldsman. The result won the Academy Award for best picture plus more Oscars for director Ron Howard and supporting actress Jennifer Connelly. Russell Crowe didn't win, but it's an Oscar-worthy performance.

"Panic Room" (2002), 7 p.m., CBS. Jodie Foster plays a mom whose home is invaded by three thieves. She and her daughter hide in a maybe-safe room. Forest Whitaker plays one of the crooks.

"Law & Order: Special Victims Unit," 8 p.m., NBC. After seeing a shooting, a teen becomes a killer himself. Malcolm David Kelly ("Lost") and Gordon Clapp ("NYPD Blue") are guests.

"Saturday Night Live," 10:30 p.m., NBC. Natalie Portman hosts, with music from Fall Out Boy.
