Chaminade tops Hawai'i Pacific, 99-89

Chris Reaves had 37 points, seven rebounds, five assists and three steals as Chaminade finished the regular season with a 99-89 victory over Hawai'i Pacific last night in a Pacific West Conference game at Blaisdell Arena.

Zack Whiting added 20 points and six assists for CU (18-8, 9-3 PacWest).

Audrius Peciukas had 25 points and 12 rebounds for HPU (8-18, 3-8).


SURFING

BRUCE IRONS ADVANCES

Kaua'i's Bruce Irons had one of the best heats of the day to advance to the third round of the Quiksilver Pro yesterday.

The second round was held in 2- to 4-foot waves at Snapper Rocks, Queensland, Australia.

Irons' two top waves received scores of 8.83 and 8.17 for a total of 17.0 in his second-round victory over Australia's Luke Munro.

Fred Patacchia Jr. of Hale'iwa was eliminated in the second round by France's Mikael Picon, 14.84-11.5.


BASEBALL

WASHINGTON BEATS HPU

Washington scored five runs in the top of the ninth, then withstood a five-run rally in the bottom of the ninth by Hawai'i Pacific for a 10-7 non-conference baseball victory yesterday at Hans L'Orange Park.

Matt Lane capped a 3-for-5 day with a three-run single in the ninth for the Huskies (10-2).

Michael Kealoha batted 3 for 4 to lead HPU (9-10).


BOXING

ISLE BOXERS AT NATIONALS

Ten Hawai'i champions will compete in the 2006 U.S. Championships at the U.S. Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colo., starting tomorrow.
