Search continues for Puna woman

A 30-year-old woman was seriously injured in a skydiving accident yesterday, an official said.
Big Island police have issued another plea for the public's help in finding a missing 74-year-old Puna woman.
Elizabeth Christensen, who may be suffering from a mental disorder, was last seen May 15 walking near the Fern Forest Community Association building. She was wearing blue denim trousers, a yellow sweater and a blue jacket. Although she wasn't with her medium-sized brown dog when last seen, she is usually accompanied by the animal, which has a red collar.
Police said the dog also is missing and may be in the woman's company.
Christensen's family reported her missing May 18, launching ground and aerial searches.

SKYDIVER HURT IN POWER LINES
A 30-year-old woman was seriously injured in a skydiving accident yesterday, an official said.
The skydiver apparently landed in power lines near Dillingham Airfield on the North Shore, said Bryan Cheplic of the city Department of Emergency Services. A medevac helicopter was sent to fly the woman to a hospital, he said.

PERMITS AVAILABLE FOR FIREWORKS
Fireworks permits will be available from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. weekdays at the Kaua'i Fire Department headquarters in the Lihu'e Civic Center, and from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at the Treasury Division in the Kapule Building of the civic center.

APPLY FOR DISASTER AID BY SATURDAY
The deadline for those who have not applied for state and federal disaster assistance is Saturday. Homeowners, renters and business owners in the City and County of Honolulu and Kaua'i County with damage from the storms and flooding from Feb. 20 to April 2 should register.
People can register by calling FEMA's toll-free number, (800) 621-FEMA, or (800) 462-7585 (TTY) for the hearing- or speech-impaired. Telephone lines are open Monday through Saturday, 5 a.m. to 6 p.m. local time. Registration also can be done online at www.fema.gov.
Monday is the last day to apply for loans from the U.S. Small Business Administration, which operates Outreach Centers at the following locations:

KAHALA
SUSPECT ARRESTED IN STATION HOLDUP
A 28-year-old man has been arrested as a suspect in the Dec. 18 armed robbery of a Kahala gas station.
A 65-year-old woman who works at the station told police a man came in just before midnight on Dec. 18, pointed a handgun at her and demanded money. The robber took an undisclosed amount and ran from the store, police said.
Members of the East Ho-nolulu crime reduction unit identified and arrested the suspect Monday on suspicion of first-degree robbery.

MAN HELD IN PURSE SNATCHING
Police arrested a 40-year-old man Monday as a suspect in an early morning purse-snatching incident in Chinatown.
They said a 49-year-old woman reported walking down the street about 1:40 a.m. in the area near King and Smith streets when a man grabbed her purse. She said she held on while the man tried to wrest her purse away but fell to the pavement.
Police said the woman's male companion chased the suspect and managed to recover the handbag.
Police were called and located the suspect, had the woman identify him and then arrested him for second-degree robbery.
MAN SOUGHT AFTER WOMEN ROBBED
Police are looking for a man wanted for allegedly robbing two women.
On June 21 at about 5:30 a.m., two women were walking past the bus stop at 810 N. Vineyard Blvd. when a man ran up from behind and grabbed one of the women's purses.
After pushing her to the ground, the man grabbed the second woman's purse and also pushed her to the ground, police said. The man was last seen running across North Vineyard Boulevard.
He is described as being in his 20s, 5 feet 10, and weighing 160 to 180 pounds. He has brown eyes, a brown complexion and was last seen shirtless, wearing blue denim pants and no shoes.
