TONIGHT'S MUST-SEE

"The Closer," 6 and 8 p.m., TNT. It isn't easy to nestle a comic sub-plot alongside a serious murder story. "Monk" does that every week, but "Closer" is serious stuff. Tonight, Brenda (Kyra Sedgwick) tackles a tough case: A juror dies shortly before a mobster would have faced a verdict. Brenda must decide if this was murder — without meeting the other jurors. Meanwhile, she's finally agreed that Fritz (Jon Tenney) should move in. Then her mom (Frances Sternhagen) breezes into town from Atlanta; she's an old-school type, not someone you introduce to a live-in boyfriend. That's a funny story entwined with the murder tale.

OF NOTE

"A Girl Like Me: The Gwen Araujo Story," 6 p.m., Lifetime. Two much-praised talents —actress Mercedes Ruehl and director Agnieszka Holland — crafted this film about a woman whose son feels he should be a female.

"Hell's Kitchen," 7 and 8 p.m., Fox. First is a rerun from last week, with the chefs turning into waiters. Then comes a new episode as they make a complete dinner.

"Saved," 7 p.m., TNT. A rough day of paramedic duty makes Cole reconsider his relationship with his ex-girlfriend.

"Spring Break Shark Attack" (2005). 7 p.m., ABC Family. Leading into its "Falcon Beach" series, ABC Family tosses in a movie with some more hard-bodied young people in swim wear. Unlike "Falcon Beach," the movie has an overload of ill-mannered guys and sharks. Shannon Lucio ("The O.C.") plays the token smart person in a bikini.

"How I Met your Mother," 7:30 p.m., CBS. In a funny episode, Lily is moving in with her finance, Marshall. Ted, the other roommate, feels left out.

"Lovespring International," 8 p.m., Lifetime. Sean Hayes guests on this semi-improvised comedy, which Eric McCormack (his "Will & Grace" colleague) produces. Hayes plays a widower looking for love.

"Two and a Half Men," 8 p.m., CBS. Charlie goes to a psychiatrist to find out how to deal with his brother's problems.

"Falcon Beach," 9 p.m., ABC Family. Two once-privileged young women must adjust. Tanya gets a job; Paige learns about her dad.

"Free Speech: Jim Lehrer and Ben Bradlee," 10 p.m., PBS. Bradlee, who edited The Washington Post during its Watergate triumphs, is interviewed by Lehrer. He says he erred in not demanding to know the name of the "Deep Throat" informant; on other issues, he stands adamantly behind his actions and preaches passionately about journalism.
